Research Objectives:
Freedom on the Move
Objective #1: Digitization of Records @ American Antiquarian Society
What’s the goal?
Based upon prior research conducted by the FOTM team at the site, we estimate that the historic newspapers located in the American Antiquarian Society’s archives contain at least 50,000 advertisements for approximately 100,000 enslaved freedom-seekers. We seek to digitize as many of these records as possible.
What is needed?
With the help of four to six researchers, each working under the supervision of Drs. Edward Baptist and Jennie K. Williams for approximately 40 hours per week, these records could be digitized in approximately six weeks.
